Tallahassee Super Regional: Who has the edge?
Pitching

Florida State weekend starters Matt Fairel and Elih Villanueva have done a great job this season, but Wichita State definitely has the edge in this category. It should also come as no surprise with Brent Kemnitz in charge of Wichita State's pitching staff once again this season. Weekend starters Rob Musgrave, Aaron Shafer and Anthony Capra spearhead the WSU pitching staff. Musgrave is 11-1 with a 2.21 ERA in 105 2/3 innings. He has also struck out 96 and walked 18, while opponents are hitting him at a .233 clip. Shafer is 11-3 with a 2.67 ERA in 107 2/3 innings, while Capra is 9-0 with a 2.87 ERA in 75 1/3 innings. Containing Florida State's offense is an incredibly tough chore, but Wichita State has the quality arms to limit their offensive production.
Hitting

After a tough start against Bucknell in last week's Tallahassee Regional, Florida State's offense was flawless the rest of the weekend. The Seminoles should carry that confidence into this weekend's series against the Shockers. FSU has the nation's best offense. The Seminoles enter the weekend hitting .356 as a team. Junior catcher Buster Posey spearheads the offense. Posey is hitting .468 with 24 homers and 86 RBIs. He's also slugging .897 and has a .572 on-base percentage. Additionally, Posey has recorded 20 doubles, four triples and 209 total bases. Stuart Tapley and Jack Rye are each hitting over .388, while shortstop Tony Delmonico is hitting .378 with eight homers and 69 RBIs. Also keep an eye on Dennis Guinn and Jason Stidham, who each enter the weekend with double-digit home run totals.
Fielding

The toughest category in the Tallahassee Super Regional breakdown, Wichita State and Florida State both enter the weekend with less than stellar fielding percentages. WSU is fielding .966 and FSU is fielding .959. However, we're giving the Seminoles the advantage for a variety of reasons. Going across the infield, Stuart Tapley is fielding .879, Tony Delmonico is fielding .908, Jason Stidham is fielding .958 and Dennis Guinn has a .981 fielding percentage. Most importantly, the Seminoles have an outstanding field general in catcher Buster Posey. We're not huge fans of either team in the fielding department, but Posey is the ultimate difference between the teams.
Intangibles

After failing to advance past the Regional round last season, the Seminoles rose to the occasion after dropping last week's Regional opener to Bucknell. With that out of the way, the Seminoles should enter the weekend laid back and confident. That could be bad news for Wichita State. In addition to the challenge of facing FSU's offense, Wichita State must also deal with hot and humid conditions in addition to a raucous crowd at Dick Howser Stadium. Beating the Seminoles in Tallahassee is an uphill battle for Wichita State, so we like Florida State's chances of advancing to the CWS.
