R-R 6-2 180 Dorado, Puerto Rico (Academia Del Terpetuo Socorro)
Some interesting names here. Tallion is like BA's #1 HS prospect. Thon is the son of Dickie Thon. This is a signing class with more draft risks than the usual Rice class.
At Ease, at this point, Taillon is the only "high risk" guy and given he will almost assuredly be a 1st round draft pick, it's doubtful he'll ever show up on campus (despite his committing to Rice almost two years ago and being a regular at Reckling Field since he was 12 years old). However, if we can land Simms, Mason and Thon, we'll likely still have a Top 10 ranked recruiting class.
I also wouldn't be surprised if the Rice coaching staff augments this list in the Spring, with a couple JUCO standouts for the OF and 1B (given Sultzbaugh, Mozingo and Comerota will all likely be gone after the 2010 season).

Patrick Drake, SS/RHP ? Webb City, Mo. ? Webb City HS
Drake is a 6-2, 185-pound shortstop and pitcher from Webb City High. Drake helped the Cardinals to a 14-7 record last season, hitting .378 with six homers and 21 RBIs on the way to first-team all-area and all-conference honors as a shortstop. Drake led Webb City to a runner-up state finish as a sophomore and earned first-team all-conference and second-team all-area honors as a utility player. Drake also plays quarterback and defensive back for the powerful Webb City football team. He is the younger brother of Brayden Drake , MSU’s starting third baseman from 2006-09 and the 2009 MVC Player of the Year.
Ryan Hafner, RHP ? Lee’s Summit, Mo. ? Lee’s Summit West HS
A 6-6, 215-pound hurler, Hafner has been a first-team all-conference pitcher the past two seasons while also earning all-conference recognition as a first baseman. Hafner’s team has posted unbeaten 10-0 conference marks the last two seasons. As a junior, Hafner went 5-2 with a 2.02 ERA. He struck out 63 batters and allowed 28 hits in 45 innings.
Spiker Helms, INF ? Wildwood, Mo. ? St. Francis Borgia HS ? Longview Community College
A switch-hitting middle infielder, the 6-foot Helms will join the Bears from Longview Community College in Kansas City. He hit .353 for the Lakers as a freshman, driving in 29 runs with 14 extra-base hits on the way to an all-region selection. At St. Francis Borgia in Washington, Mo., Helms enjoyed a standout high school career in the field and on the mound. He hit .449 with 26 RBIs and 35 runs scored as a senior with a 7-2 pitching mark, 1.84 ERA, 61 strikeouts and a .176 opponent average. As a junior, Helms hit .397 with 21 RBIs and went 4-2 with a 2.50 ERA on the mound. Helms hit .295 with 22 RBIs as a sophomore and posted a 6-0 record and a 1.30 ERA. He was a two-time all-state and three-time all-district choice as a prep.
Jordan Shipers, LHP ? Bethany, Mo. ? South Harrison HS
A highly sought after prospect whose high school does not play baseball, Shipers has made a name for himself at several prestigious summer and fall tournaments. The 5-11 southpaw struck out 13 batters in five shutout innings last month at the World Wood Bat Association World Championship tournament in Jupiter, Fla., playing as a member of the Sandlot/Midwest Scout Team based out of Oologah, Okla. He nearly pitched a perfect game against Oklahoma at the 2009 Sunbelt Tournament, and pitched in the Area Code Games, one of the nation’s top high school tournaments, in August 2009. Players participated in regional tryouts to be selected for one of the eight teams represented at the tournament in Long Beach, Calif.
Conor Smith, C/IF ? Ballwin, Mo. ? Parkway West HS
A high school teammate of MSU freshman outfielder Keenen Maddox at Parkway West High in the St. Louis area, Smith hit .388 as a junior with eight homers and 26 RBIs. Half of Smith’s hits went for extra bases as he accumulated an .821 slugging percentage and .518 slugging figure. Smith has been a first-team all-conference pick each of the last two seasons.
Seth Swafford, LHP ? Hillsboro, Mo. ? Hillsboro HS ? Jefferson College
A 6-foot, 185-pound pitcher, Swafford earned all-region and all-conference honors and was named Jefferson College Pitcher of the Year as a true freshman in 2008 before redshirting last season. In 2008, Swafford was 7-1 with a 4.10 ERA, 82 strikeouts and a .202 opponent average in 52.2 innings pitched. He ranked second nationally in strikeouts per nine innings. As a prep at Hillsboro High, he was an all-conference, all-district and all-state choice as well as the Jefferson County MVP.

Stetson inks five players
Jimmy O’Neil O’Neil is a 6’8”, 240lb right handed pitcher from Bradenton, Florida. He plays for the Pendleton School/IMG Academy in Bradenton. The Panthers finished the 2009 season 31-1 and ranked 7th in the nation. O’Neil posted a 2.40 ERA with 63 strike outs in 49 innings. He was also selected to play in the prestigious “Florida Diamond Club” event in which players are selected by professional scouts.
“It is rare to find a player with the combination of size and pitching skills that Jimmy possesses”, said Dunn. “He has the potential to compete for a starting role as a freshman.”
Kevin Lindheim Lindheim is a 6’1” right handed pitcher and outfielder who plays for Naples High School in Naples, Florida. In 2009 he hit .350 with 27 RBI and picked up eight saves as a pitcher. Lindheim was also a “Florida Diamond Club” invitee. He will be counted on to contribute at the plate and on the mound for the Hatters.
“Kevin is a very talented and versatile player. He has an above average fastball off the mound and is a hard hitting outfielder with homerun potential”, said Dunn.
Austin Perez Perez is a 5’10’ left handed pitcher out of Loxahatchee, Florida who plays ball at Royal Palm Beach High School. Over the past two seasons he has racked up a 16-3 record with over 100 strike outs and an ERA of 0.94. Heading into his senior season he has already earned All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State honors.
“Austin is a proven winner. He has command of three pitches and is a fierce competitor”, said Dunn. “We expect him to follow in the footsteps of a long line of great Stetson players from the Palm Beach area.”
Robert Bruce Bruce is a 6’4” outfielder from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida. Bruce missed much of his junior year with an injury, yet rebounded to have a great season on the summer circuit. He reminds the Hatters coaching staff of a young Paul O’Neil.
“Robert is a very projectable outfielder with unlimited potential. He has the ability to play all three outfield positions, has power, and a strong throwing arm”, said Dunn.
Thomas Kelly Kelly is a 5’10” shortstop who plays high school ball at Loyola Academy in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He is a smooth fielding shortstop who can play any position around the infield. He will bring immediate depth to Stetson’s infield and has the potential to compete as a freshman for a spot in the middle of the diamond.
“We are very excited to have Thomas with us. He is a sure handed infielder with good range and a strong throwing arm”, said Dunn. “We hope to get more players like him out of the Chicago area in the future.”

I don't know if he signed, but last I heard, he was going to Miami.
